Meet Charlie Horse

Charlie is a 11 year old Belgian Haflinger Cross gelding. He has been a carriage horse for one year. Charlie spent the first 10 years working on an Amish Farm in Missouri. Charlie works four days a week weather permitting. Wednesday through Friday he works 3-4 hour days most of it just looking pretty on the Madison Square. He never gives more than four tours per day. Sometimes on Saturday's he works about 5 hours. When Charlie returns to the Square after a tour he always has water available and sometimes takes a big drink.  Most of Madison is pretty flat so he doesn't have to pull heavy loads up hill.

Draft horses were bred to work and have easy going temperaments that make them a good working partner. Charlie and I spend a lot of time together so we trust each other to work hard and be fair to each other. People who don't have horses think that horses don't talk. Well horses have lots to say if you are listening. Charlie always lets me know what he is thinking if it is important and sometimes on the tours I will let you know what he is trying to communicate. After 45 years working with horses I have learned their language just as you may know what your dog or cat wants. I have spent my entire life working in the horse industry as a coach and judge so please feel free to ask any questions you like about horses.

Charlie lives in Madison when he is working and then comes home to Watkinsville Sunday through Tuesday to live in his nice green pasture and eat grass. In Madison he has a two acre pecan orchard where he hangs out eats hay and visits with all of his human neighbors. Charlie is quite the celebrity in Madison as he lives right in town. Everyone keeps an eye out for him and trust me he is watching for them too. If you want to see where Charlie lives in Madison just ask and I will happily take you on a little detour to see his home sweet home.

See you soon
